Literacy

I.  Access information from electronic sources

A.  Access information from a variety of electronic sources . (e.g., pose questions to on-line experts)

II. Locates selects and retrieves relevant information effectively

A.  Uses techniques to conduct and refine searches. (e.g., try different search engines to locate     information on the same topic)

B.  Retrieves relevant information from a number of sources and assesses the accuracy of that information (e.g., gather and compare information that cites different viewpoints on an issue)

III. Identifies sources appropriate to a specific task and evaluates the accuracy and validity of the information.

A.  Selects information, from a variety of electronic sources, which appears to be recent and accurate. (e.g., question information that is obviously biased)

 

Processing Information

 

IV.  Uses technology to explore and interpret ideas by organizing, manipulating, combining, and extending information to broaden his or her understanding of a topic. (Processing will include many strategies besides the use of technology.  These will include hard copy drafts.)

A.  Uses technology to explore and interpret ideas by organizing and manipulating information.  (e.g., create a sequence of the steps in a process that can then be revised and reordered; collect and analyze information collaboratively using an on-line database)

 

Producing and Providing Information

V.  Demonstrates the ability to use information technology to communicate with various audiences by producing a variety of products that integrate the elements of multimedia.

A.  Uses information technology to produce a simple multimedia product. (e.g., use desktop publishing to create a brochure to promote an idea within the school; design a page to publish artwork for the schoolÕs electronic gallery on the schoolÕs internet or intranet pages)

VI.  Uses design conventions to enhance the impact of the communication.

A.  Selects an appropriate type of software to produce a product, based on an awareness of its capabilities. (e.g., choose a draw program to combine previously made diagrams and captions in a slide show presentation)

A.  Demonstrates the skills required to operate hardware and software. (e.g., set up and use peripherals, adjust setting, preference, etc,; use function keys and keyboard shortcuts)

A.  Demonstrates a responsible and ethical attitude to the use of information technology. (e.g., comply with the Acceptable Use Guideline of the school and Board when using the Internet; keep passwords private)
