ADVANCE YOUR CAREER! UPDATE YOUR EDUCATION!

Students seeking to pursue the online Master of Education must be admitted to the Curriculum and Instructional Technology M.Ed. program. To ensure high quality graduate programs, the admission process is competitive and limited to the most highly qualified students. There are two steps in the application process, applying to the Curriculum and Instruction Department and after approval, applying to the Graduate College.

To be admitted to the Curriculum and Instructional Technology M.Ed. program:

- complete the pre-application form (click here for Word format)
- request official transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate institutions
- provide three recommendation letters
- and provide a personal narrative/statement of intent

The following guidelines and instructions will assist you in preparing for application materials. Review them carefully prior to submitting your application. When applying to the Curriculum and Instruction Department, three types of information weigh most heavily in the selections decisions: academic performance (evaluated through undergraduate and graduate transcripts), letters of recommendation, and personal narratives/statements of intent. Each of these is briefly described below.

Academic Performance:
Undergraduate academic status is primary, with consideration of graduate coursework if you have taken graduate work. If you believe your undergraduate coursework is not representative of your abilities address these issues in your narrative.

Letters of Recommendation:
Because you are applying for graduate study, evaluation of your academic potential by university faculty is important. Please make an effort to include at least one letter of this type. Encourage those writing letters of support for you to address your written and oral communication skills, potential for advanced study, creative talent, and potential for a successful career.

Statement of Intent:
List your goal(s) or purpose for pursuing an advanced degree, reason for selecting Iowa State University for advanced study, professional background, special areas of interest in the field of education and long-term professional goals. The statement serves as an important indicator of your ability to communicate effectively in writing.

Next Cohort starts Summer 2010 period. Completed application materials for summer semester admission are due March, 2010. Completed application packets include the application form, all letters of recommendation, transcripts, and statement of intent. If the information you provide is approved, you then officially apply to the ISU Graduate Admissions Office.
